Government Official Confirms MoD Looking at Security Risk from Chinese Cars, as Personnel Instructed to Avoid Secret Talk in Cars.

A defence minister has revealed that the Ministry of Defence is actively looking into the potential threats associated with Chinese vehicles, while personnel have been advised to refrain from discussing secret information in all vehicles.

Security Advice for Defence Personnel

During a recent interview on LBC, a defence minister commented on claims that MoD officials have been instructed not to talk about classified material while riding in China-made vehicles.

He stated that the ministry is “examining” cars from China within its fleets, however emphasised that security is a concern in every modern cars.

Our department has a collection of thousands of cars in the MoD and those vehicles account for a tiny fraction.
But whether you’re driving a Chinese car or a non-Chinese car, our instruction to our people is not to plug MoD technology into their vehicle, not to have conversations at a classified classification in any kind of car, due to the increasing risks of surveillance that exist in every single automobile, to restrict those confidential talks in protected areas. This is a wise and reasonable thing for anyone worried about safety.

After it was suggested that it would be prudent for the ministry to cease using all cars from China, the minister responded: That is precisely what we’re investigating at the present time.”

Broader Defence Context

This announcement follows reports from Scandinavian countries have warned the UK to the presence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese electric buses, which could allow China to switch off public transport and cause chaos to public transit.

Furthermore, a Russia intelligence vessel has been directing laser beams at Royal Air Force pilots, labeled a “extremely risky” act by government representatives.

This broader security environment underscores the significance of strong measures and vigilance in all aspects of official operations, including transport use to discussions habits.
