PSG Defeats Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Claim French Super Cup in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now won the prestigious trophy on 14 different occasions.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the match between the French league champions and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele found the net early on.

However, Marseille fired two times in the closing moments to take a shock lead. Initially, Mason Greenwood scored from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital equaliser in the dying seconds to force the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, stopping crucial kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for PSG to seal a 4-1 shootout victory.

The record winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the last thirteen years.
