Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a colorful mix of personalities, and a thrilling plot including angels, evil spirits, and sinister influences increasing in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Key plot points for the third episode of Campaign 4 lie ahead.
The Warrior Group Introduced
Episode 3 finished on a major cliffhanger and introduced the initial group of adventurers who will separate from the primary party to undertake their separate journey, apart from the remaining groups.
This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (brought to life by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).
The Reason for Division
Given a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
This explains, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Introduction, intertwining the characters’ stories before dividing into three distinct groups: Fighters, Strategists, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
As described by the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for players who are drawn to a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where diplomatic options are scarce.
Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might look mismatched, but the actions of the latest installment demonstrate why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
For one thing, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a violent initial meeting with the enemy group.
A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose demise kicked off the campaign’s events—manipulated the enemy for his own means, entering Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the rogue, and taking all the magical artifacts to dispose of.
The traitor then paid off his liabilities and fled to a secure base in the remote area, north of the city, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each character has a specific drive to leave the city the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as the companion and trusted friend, seeks vengeance.
- Kattigan has experience in the region and warns that it is a hostile place.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having defied his family’s wishes to execute the target and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their status as prominent individuals in the powerful family could help the team access areas they normally couldn’t.
- Moreover, The grateful character vowed a eternal obligation to Wicander for his deliverance and will now follow him anywhere.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that control the city for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city dangerous:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- The warrior and The cleric turned against the powerful family and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
- Teor is marked for death by the clan.
This leaves them few options but to journey toward the northern region in pursuit of the traitor.
What’s Next?
Based on the recent installment’s follow-up content, we learn that the Soldiers table won’t be around next week, leaving the remaining eight participants to form the Explorers and Schemers tables.
Viewers can anticipate learning which players will be where in the season’s concluding setup installment, released on October 24.
